Job Description: 10-month, full-time, faculty position
The Cambridge School of Weston seeks a full-time Chemistry Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year to teach a variety of science courses for grades 9 through 12, as well as participate in the community beyond the classroom. Courses may include Chemistry I, Environmental Chemistry, and additional courses based on interest and experience. Preference will be given to candidates whose experience will allow for connections across science disciplines in their teaching. A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills; will value progressive, student-centered education; will demonstrate an ability to make strong connections with students; and will be passionate about teaching creative students with a variety of approaches to learning in a boarding and day school environment. Specific Responsibilities for this Position Include:
Departmental:
● Teach 12 blocks over the school year; there are six modules, meaning there will be two courses per module. Classes meet 4-5 days a week for 90 minutes. Courses will include several sections of Chemistry I and additional science courses based on experience.
● Contribute to the school with the equivalence of a teaching block through professional development and committee work.
● Plan, develop, and execute lessons that showcase innovation, creativity, and a passion for the art of teaching while also utilizing distinctive instructional approaches that best serve the students’ long-term interests.
● Utilize the lab safely and effectively to incorporate experimentation, observation, collaboration, and problem solving into the learning experience.
● Evaluate each student's ability to meet course standards in scientific knowledge and skills. Document and communicate progress to students, advisors, and parents/guardians regarding academic progress in the course.
● Participate in weekly departmental meetings prepared to discuss student concerns, teaching pedagogy, professional development, and curriculum developments.
● Demonstrate a willingness and interest to learn and share new pedagogical techniques and develop specific curricular expertise. Read and stay abreast of current topics in science education and engage science teaching faculty in discussions on new perspectives.
Community:
● Offer two blocks of “D Block,” our after-school activities, enrichment, and athletics program. Preference is given to those willing and able to support team sports, especially soccer, field hockey, basketball, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, baseball, and tennis.
● Serve as an advisor for up to eight students.
● Participate in up to two alliance/affinity groups, student clubs, or committees.
● Participate in our curricular PACE programming. Through the PACE program (Promoting Awareness and Community Engagement), we dedicate time during the mod and the year for experiential classes, events, and activities that prepare our students to meet the demands of an increasingly complex and diverse world. A four-year curriculum, PACE has been designed to ensure that all CSW students develop self-awareness, social consciousness, healthy living habits, life skills, and leadership that will serve them into adulthood.
● Chaperone two weekend activities each year to support our boarding students.

Position Overview

The two Assistant Teachers are core consulting team members of the AYS program which serves approximately 20 students. Each Assistant Teacher will work with a Lead Teacher and one team of 10 students. Work Schedule Scheduling is based on school and group program bookings. High seasons for programming run mid-September through mid-November and mid-April through the end of June. During these high-volume program times, minimum availability of at least three mornings or afternoons per week is required. Evening and weekend availability is a plus but not required. Winter work has more limited opportunities but can include February school vacation week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Create and plan lessons that connect to curriculum and sequential units that have been developed in collaboration with the Science Department Chair and colleagues.
Incorporate cross-curricular project-based learning, educational technology, and universal design principles into lessons.
Collaborate with colleagues, Department Chair, Director of Teaching and Learning, and Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to incorporate multicultural education into the science curriculum.
Collaborate with the Head of Middle School and Dean of Middle School to facilitate character education and service-learning programs.
Exemplify the School’s mission and community principles, including honesty, compassion, and respect.
Participate in and help facilitate all division and grade level activities and meetings.
Coach a sport and/or supervise guided study hall as assigned.
Collaborate with colleagues within grade level, division, department and student support services, including the Learning Resources Department.
Perform duties such as supervising dismissal, recess, lunch; being an advisor, grade team member, student club facilitator: leading/assisting with fall orientation, grade trips, one mandatory overnight grade trip (3 days 2 nights), and events.
Maintain all documentation connected with the curriculum and students which includes writing personalized comments for advisees and regular parent communication.
Attend faculty meetings; typically on Mondays from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm.
Attend professional development meetings; three 8:30am to 4:00pm and three 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
Maintain current CPR/AED & first aid certification and child abuse prevention training.

This full-time position includes teaching four science classes. Candidates capable of teaching all science disciplines are encouraged to apply with a preference for Chemistry and Physics background. Additional responsibilities include: attending weekly Science Department meetings, contributing to Science Department/Upper School initiatives as determined by the Department Head/Upper School Director, advising, and one other significant duty as determined by the Upper School Director.

Our compensation strategy prioritizes equity of pay for faculty with similar years of teaching and other related experience. Starting salaries for the 2023-2024 school year typically range from a starting salary of $67,000 to the median 20 year teaching experience salary of $97,400. Both of these salaries are exclusive of additional compensation granted to faculty with relevant advanced degrees. The starting salary for any hired candidate is based on experience within salary bands.
