Grants

Grants for Empowering Teachers (GET) - Due May 21, 2024 

As a benefit to membership, the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers (MAST) has established the GET opportunity for educators (formal and informal) to purchase non-consumable items that engage and enrich student learning.


This grant opportunity is open to all MAST members. You must be a current MAST member to apply.  To join MAST, please see our join page

Every year five $200 awards will be presented to applicants who demonstrate the use/value of a particular item for their students and science education.

Within a year and a half, recipients are required to share evidence of student engagement. Possible presentation forms may include photographs, videos or posts on social media or the website, a poster for a MAST annual conference, or a presentation at that conference.  Evidence may include photographs, drawings, quotes, videos, essays, artwork, etc.  Awardees will receive complimentary attendance to the MAST Annual conference to share their work.

Some examples of non-consumable items:
Science equipment: temperature probes, microscopes, balances, etc
Lab Materials:  rocks and mineral samples, motors, etc
Technology: thermal camera, build-able technology kits, robotics kits
Resources: textbooks/leveled readers/non-fiction texts

Elaine Adams Professional Development Grant - Due MAy 2024

All science educators are eligible to apply for the Elaine Adams Professional Development Grant, established in memory of Elaine Adams, chemistry teacher at Phillips Academy and one of the four founders of the former Science Teachers Area Resource Swap (STARS).

Each year one $500 award will be presented to an applicant who proposes pursuing a professional development venture that is interesting and new for themselves and that has the potential to be of use/value for their students and science education. Recipients are expected to present a workshop at an upcoming MAST Conference. Prior winners may apply again however new awardees will be given priority over previous winners.
